3 DIY Plumbing Tricks To Prevent Disasters In Kitchens And Bathrooms

When you have problems with the plumbing in kitchens or bathrooms, it can lead to serious water damage if the problems are not addressed. Moreover, preventing the plumbing disasters is a priority to avoid those costly water damage restoration projects. Here are some tips that will help to prevent plumbing disasters in kitchens and bathrooms.

1. Install Cleanouts at Bottom of Sink Traps for Easy Drain Cleaning

Have you ever had a small object of any type in your hand near the sink and accidently drop or wash it down the drain. Sometimes, you may be able to fish something out of traps, but they often get stuck in the bottom of that U-shaped pipe. This is exactly why you should consider having a cleanout install here with a screw cap so you can easily access things that accidently get washed down the drain, as well as to make maintenance tasks like cleaning clogged drains easier.

2. Insulate Pipes That Are Exposed to Protect Against Cold Weather Damage

In some smaller homes and slab foundations, plumbing may be installed in areas like above ceilings in attics or high on exterior walls. There are some applications where having pipes in these locations cannot be avoided, but you want to try to have as few water lines as possible in areas like attics where they may be exposed to cold and susceptible to bursting. In addition, make sure any water lines that are in vulnerable locations are well-insulated.

3. Maintenance Access and Where You Want to Keep Pipes Away

Make sure you have access to plumbing where you may need to do maintenance or repairs, such as for the water lines to tubs and showers in bathrooms. In addition, there are some areas that you want to keep plumbing away from, such as water lines exposed to outside air or sewer lines coming from your home being too close to tree roots. If you have to deal with these problems due to the location of plumbing, consider relocating the pipes to a safer place or installing systems like insulation for water lines or root barriers for sewer lines that protect these areas from future damage.

These are some of the things that you can do to prevent many common plumbing problems that lead to costly damage to your home. If you need help with repairs or maintenance, contact a sewer line repair service for help with cleaning drains and installing systems like root barriers to protect plumbing from damage.
